Established in the emirate of Sharjah, about 10 km from Dubai, Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF) offers its investors a well-developed network of business facilities (e.g., offices, land, prebuilt warehouses, container parking spaces, and accommodation) as well as a number of free zone corporate advantages, such as exemption from personal and corporate income taxes, permission for 100% foreign ownership, full repatriation of capital and profits, and 100% free transfer of funds.
SAIF provides investors with a freedom for carrying a range of business activities in the field of light and medium industry. SAIF authorities issue three types of business licenses, namely, (1) a trade license (issued either as a commercial license or a general trade) for importing, exporting, distribution, and warehousing of products, (2) a service license for service providers, and (3) industrial license for processing and manufacturing of goods.
What types of companies?
SAIF permits registering three types of companies within the zone, namely, (1) a Free Zone Establishment (FZE) with at least one shareholder, (2) a Free Zone Company (FZC) with two to five shareholders, and (3) a branch of a foreign or UAE company which operates under the same name as the parent company. The minimum capital requirement for establishing a FZE and FZC is AED 150.000 (about EUR 36.000), whereas there are no minimum capital requirements for branch offices.
How to register a company?
The company incorporation procedure in SAIF is based on a single-window system. Therefore, business registration, licensing and consultancy services are provided in a timely (24 hours from the submission of the requested documents) and efficient manner. Setting up a company in SAIF includes three main steps. Firstly, the founders of a prospective company should present a complete list of documents (e.g., an application form, project summary, and passport copies of company’s owners) to the SAIF Commercial Department. Secondly, a lease agreement for office and/or commercial space should be arranged and the license should be obtained at the SAIF Licensing, Leasing, and Legal Affairs Department. Thirdly, the founders need to arrange visa and ID card formalities with the SAIF Client & Investor Services Department.
