Umm Al-Quwain Free Trade Zone (UAQ FTZ) is a free trade zone located in the emirate Umm Al Quwain. The emirate is situated at 45 km from Dubai. Similarly to other free trade zones established within the UAE, UAQ FTZ provides infrastructure and business incentives for companies operating within a variety of sectors, including, but not limited to, trading, manufacturing, and provision of services. In order to attract business investors and create a favorable commercial environment, UAQ FTZ provides investors with a number of incentives e.g., permission for 100% foreign ownership, 0% corporate and personal tax rate, exemptions from import and export taxes, absence of currency restrictions, possibility to repatriate 100% of capital and profits, as well as cost efficient and quick company registration procedure.
What activities? UAQ FTZ does not limit the range of business activities that can be carried within the zone. UAQ FTZ authorities issue five types of business licenses, namely: (1) commercial licenses for firms engaging in trading activities, e.g., distribution, storing, import, and export of goods specified on the license; (2) industrial licenses for manufacturing activities, e.g., importing raw materials, manufacturing, assembling, packaging, and exporting the products specified in the license; (3) consultancy licenses which are designed for professionals providing consultancy services; (4) freelance permits for sole traders that operate under their own name; and (5) service licenses which permit the provision of specified services.
